About Us

Omar is a lifelong entrepreneur and Navy veteran who became a Master Barber, and has since owned and operated 3 landmark salons, including ‘Danny His and Hers,’ featuring 21 stylists and barbers in downtown Boston, as well as founding the first luxury Barbershop in Massachusetts ‘379 Club,’ and most recently, ‘1^st Yard Barbers.’ Omar and his business partner Scott Matalon also co-founded and operated ‘Common Area Cleanings’ for 9 years, providing high-quality services to renters, homeowners, and large real estate developers in the Boston area.

After purchasing and renovating his own home, Omar turned it into a modern Smart Home in partnership with Ashley Maysonet. As friends, family and business associates began experiencing the power and convenience of today’s Smart Home technologies in his own home, Omar recognized the opportunity to provide a highly personalized service helping others design and implement their own Smart Homes through what can be an oftentimes confusing selection of products and services that require a wide range of knowledge in wireless, internet, mobile apps, and the new technologies.

Bringing together his trusted partners Scott and Ashley, with a mission to provide the highest quality products and services, Home Smartening was born.

Ashley has more than 14 years of experience with software and hardware in wireless applications and mobile technologies. She is an experienced manager of Verizon wireless franchises, a skilled solutions specialist, and an expert troubleshooter for a myriad of devices including mobile phones, tablets, and computers. Familiar with all device platforms and operating systems, Ashley brings extensive and direct knowledge in configuring, debugging, and training in mobile, wireless, tablet and PC technologies.

Ashley’s background includes a broad range of technology and service industry knowledge and skills, including nursing, science, and paralegal studies. She recognized early on that Smart Homes and the ‘Internet of Things’ are the wave of the future, and that harnessing the power of these new technologies lies not only in a deep knowledge of their interoperability, but the importance of intelligently planning, configuring, and training to maximize the safety, comfort, and convenience of our clients.

Scott is a lifelong technology and services entrepreneur, and an original pioneer of the internet when it was first introduced in the late 1980’s, even before the invention of the World Wide Web. After founding one of the first Web development companies in the early 1990’s, Scott serviced a blue-chip client list that included world-renowned artists Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones, U2 and Phish, as well as media companies SONY, Blue Note Records, NYNEX, Continental Cablevision and many others. In 1997 Scott designed and created the #1 e-commerce software, Online Merchant^TM, and the revolutionary BuyItOnline^TM shopping mall, and received two international patents for his electronic shopping cart and coupon technologies.

Since 2004, Scott founded and operates Stingray Body Art, the leading Tattoo and Piercing emporium in Boston, and along with business partner Omar Omolade, co-founded and operated Common Area Cleanings for 9 years together. Scott is a long-time civic leader in Boston, currently President of Allston Village Main Streets and former President of the Allston Board of Trade.
